Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026
Yoodle ("we", "us", or "our") is a community platform connecting neighbours for odd jobs and local help. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your rights. It applies to the Yoodle website at yoodle.ca and the Yoodle app for iPhone. Please also read our Terms of Use.
1. Information We Collect
When you use Yoodle, we collect:
- Account information — your email address, and your name and profile picture if you sign in with Google. You choose the display name other people see.
- Profile information — anything you add to your profile, such as an "About me" bio and, if you offer help, your helper description, categories and rate.
- Location — the location you enter or detect when you post a job or set up a helper profile. This can be a street address, and we store it together with its map coordinates. See section 3.
- Jobs and activity — jobs you post (title, description, budget), jobs you apply for, and their status.
- Messages — messages you exchange with other users about a job or help request.
- Ratings, reports and blocks — ratings you give and receive, reports you submit, and users you block.
- Notification data — if you allow push notifications, a device identifier from our push provider that lets us send notifications to your device.
- Referral information — your referral code, points, and who joined using your code.
- ID verification (optional) — if you choose to get ID verified, the result of the check and your payment record. Your ID and selfie go to Stripe, not to us. See section 3A.
- Technical data — standard logs kept by our service providers, such as IP address, browser or device type, and timestamps.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To run your account and sign you in, including sending one-time sign-in codes by email.
- To show jobs and helpers near you and connect you with neighbours.
- To deliver messages and send notifications about them — push notifications if you allow them, and an email if a message stays unread for 30 minutes. You can turn these emails off in your Profile.
- To show ratings so neighbours can decide who to work with.
- To review reports, enforce our Terms of Use, and prevent fraud, abuse and safety problems.
- To keep Yoodle safe, we use automated tools to screen new jobs, profiles and messages for scams and fraud. Accounts flagged as scams may be suspended, and any suspension can be reviewed by contacting us (section 11).
- To maintain and improve Yoodle.
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
3. Location Privacy
For regular members, your precise location is never shown to other users:
- Job and helper pins on the map are shifted randomly by up to about 80 metres. Open jobs and active helper profiles are always shown on the map; you can pause your helper listing at any time to remove your pin.
- Other users may see an approximate distance, such as "1.2 km away".
- When you use the locate button, your device's GPS position is used on your device to centre the map and is not saved to your account.
The address and coordinates you save with a job or helper profile are stored in our database so we can show you to nearby neighbours.
Yoodle Pros (pro.yoodle.ca): if you create a Pro profile, the business address you enter is shown in full on your Pro profile and at its exact spot on the map, together with your name, business name, trades, description and travel area, as set out in the Yoodle Pro Terms. Licence and insurance details you give us are not shown publicly; we only show whether a licence has been verified. You can delete your Pro profile at any time without deleting your Yoodle account.
3A. ID Verification (optional)
Members can choose to get ID verified for a fee. The check is done by Stripe (Stripe Identity), our payments partner:
- What Stripe collects — a photo of your government-issued photo ID (driver's licence, passport or provincial ID card) and a live selfie. Stripe compares your face in the selfie with the photo on your ID, which uses biometric data. Stripe also receives your email address and your payment and billing details.
- What Yoodle receives and keeps — the result (whether you were verified, the date, how many tries you used, the reason a try didn't succeed, for example "selfie didn't match"), a record of your payment (amount, tax, province), and your legal first and last name as read from your ID by Stripe. We never receive or store your ID images, your selfie or your ID number.
- What other users see — a "✓ ID verified" badge on your profile, map pin, helper listing and chats. They do not see any details from your ID.
- Your legal name — kept private. Other members can't see it today. In future we may show it only to someone you're arranging work with (for example a contractor hiring you), so they can match it to your ID when you meet. We will tell you in the app before that starts. Your display name can stay a nickname.
- Your consent — we ask for your consent before every check. Getting verified is optional, and you can use Yoodle without it.
- Stripe's own policy — Stripe handles your ID, selfie and payment under its own Privacy Policy and keeps them for the periods it describes. You can ask us to ask Stripe to delete your verification data (section 11).
4. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it with advertisers. We share information only as follows:
- With other users — your display name, bio, helper details, ratings, job details, messages you send them, and approximate location as described above.
- With service providers that help us run Yoodle, only for that purpose:
- Supabase — database, sign-in and file storage
- OneSignal — push notifications
- Resend — email delivery
- Cloudflare — website delivery, security and email routing
- GitHub Pages — website hosting
- OpenFreeMap — map tiles (based on OpenStreetMap data); OpenStreetMap — backup map tiles
- OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service — address search (the text you type in the address box is sent to look it up)
- Google — sign-in, if you choose "Continue with Google", and web fonts
- Apple — push notification delivery in the iPhone app
- Stripe — payments and ID verification, if you choose to get ID verified (section 3A)
- If required by law — in response to valid legal process, or to protect someone's safety.
Some of these providers store or process data outside Canada, including in the United States.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
We keep your information while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time in the app: go to Profile → Settings → Delete my account. This immediately and permanently removes your profile, jobs, helper listing, messages, applications, ratings, points and referrals. Jobs you were helping with go back to their poster as open.
Deleting your account also removes your ID verification result and the legal name we stored. Payment records are kept, without the link to your account, for as long as tax law requires. Copies may remain in our providers' backups for a limited time until they are overwritten. Report records may be kept where needed for safety or legal reasons. You can also ask us to delete your data by emailing us (section 11).
6. Security
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure sign-in, and database access rules that limit who can read your data. No system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Children's Privacy
Yoodle is not intended for anyone under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate information — most of it you can edit yourself in your Profile.
- Delete your account and data (see section 5).
- Withdraw consent: turn off push notifications in your device settings, turn off emails in your Profile, or delete your account.
9. Cookies and Local Storage
Yoodle uses essential cookies and your device's local storage only — to keep you signed in, remember your theme, save a job draft before you sign in, and remember your last map position. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new policy on this page with an updated date, and tell you in the app about significant changes. Continued use of Yoodle after changes means you accept the updated policy.
